Domestic Violence Awareness
In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, NC Women United invited April
Burgess-Johnson, Director of Outreach & Prevention at the NC Coalition
Against Domestic Violence to be our guest speaker for the October membership
meeting. She presented information on the issue of domestic violence
and new strategies and prevention initiatives to Stop Domestic Violence
Before it Starts, which is the statewide theme for DVAM 2007. You
can download the presentation here.
The Violence Policy Center just released its report When Men Murder Women:
An Analysis of 2005 Homicide Data and NC ranks 11th in the country in
single victim/single offender homicides. In North Carolina alone, at
least 424 women, children, and men in our state have been murdered as a result
of domestic violence since January 2002. For more information on how
you can get involved, please visit www.nccadv.org,
